Leeds: Education Volunteers

As an Education Volunteer, you will work with our Education team to welcome visiting pupils and teachers, helping them feel welcome and supported throughout their visit. You will also support our interactive workshops, getting hands on with collections and creating memorable experiences for learners.

We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers who are keen to work with young people of all ages. Our education programme runs Tuesday – Friday 10:00 – 14:00 during term time. We welcome learners of all ages, but our primary audiences are KS2 (ages 5 – 11) and KS3-4 (ages 12-16) learners.

Policies:

As an Education Volunteer you will comply with Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Equality and other relevant legislation. You will work to Royal Armouries organisational policies and procedures, including risk management, to protect people, the collection and the museum’s reputation.

People:

  • You will work as directed by the Education Officer and Learning Assistants.
  • You will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers in the Education team.
  • You will maintain a high level of professionalism when communicating with teachers, pupils and other visitors.

INDUCTION DATE: 26 March - 2.30pm. 

SHIFT TIMES: 9.30am – 2.30pm with a lunch break. 

LOCATION: Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds

 

Places are limited so not all applicants will be successful. We are committed to inclusive recruitment and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

An induction session and site tour will be held on 26th March 2026. This challenge requires attendance at the induction session.  

Volunteers must be 18 or older for this challenge

What's involved?

  • Working alongside the Education Officer and Learning Assistants to maintain a high standard of education workshops.
  • Setting up and put away museum artefacts and set dressing for use in workshops.
  • Providing safe and secure working practices in all activities for staff, pupils and museum objects.
  • Assisting in the promotion of all learning programmes and materials.
  • Moving, setting up and putting away teaching equipment and set dressing, including heavy weapons and armour.
  • You may occasionally be required to wear replica historic costumes.
  • This role will require us to undertake a basic DBS check.

How to get involved?

Step 1) Register as a volunteer on our Volunteer Makers portal and accept the challenge.

Step 2) Attend the advertised induction day, meet the team, ask any questions and have a tour around the site.
